You probably should support me, Craig.  I will listen when you talk and answer your questions truthfully.

I do not favor "amnesty."  However, your training and experiences as an Army officer should give you some perspective of the overwhelming difficulty of physically hauling 12 to 15 million people out of our country. One problem here that illustrates the complexity of this situation is kind of a simple geometry thing, like I teach.  If you could indeed "pick up" 14 million people, where would you put them down?   A final thought I have here is that if the law had been enforced for the last seven, or 20, years, our problem would be much smaller now.  Also, NAFTA forced many starving peasant farmers to seek other professions somewhere else to feed their families.  In many cases, that somewhere else was here. There is a reasonable solution for this situation that sincere Americans can agree on.

I believe I learned enough science at Canute High School to conclude that if we continue to inject foreign materials into our atmosphere at present rates, the planet will not provide my grandson a place to stand while he attempts to solve the problem of how to keep another generation alive here on earth.  Even considering the war in Iraq, it's veteran's neglect, totally unacceptable Katrina victim assistance, and the overt torture of humans on the well-lit world stage;  I believe the worst offense against humanity by this administration was the total rejection of even discussing the Kyoto deal, just for exclusively economic concerns and to give American Business one more good quarter.

Finally, I'm known as somewhat of a tree hugger by my students at school.  We always use both sides of our papers. I think the Sierra Club should support me much more than they have been inclined to do.

This might have been somewhat longer than you wanted or needed, but as an Artillery Officer, you're probably worth it.

I would sincerely appreciate your support in this campaign, and will work hard to earn and deserve it.

Thank you,

Bert Smith
