                                        BERT SMITH FOR CONGRESS 2008

                          HONEST PATRIOTIC DEMOCRATIC LEADERSHIP

My fellow Americans:                                                                                 July 23, 2007

One year from today, Democrats from Central Oklahoma will select a nominee to challenge the Republican incumbent currently holding the office of U S Representative for the 5th Congressional District of Oklahoma.

It is my intention to be our party's representative in the general election of November, 2008, and begin serving the 5th District, Oklahoma, and America as a U S Congressman in January of 2009.

As a first time candidate for this office in 2004, we received 92,719 votes in that general election.  As some will remember, we challenged a 12 year incumbent who was, or had been, one of the 20 most powerful members of the House.   A then strong incumbent president from the same party was on the ballot with a local popularity rating of 66%, and a state ballot issue drew additional support to their campaigns.

We learned a great deal from the 2004 race, and continued to learn as a candidate for the same office in 2006.  Up to this day, everything we have done in all three campaigns was done by volunteers, just like the colonial minutemen at Lexington and Concord in 1775.  Not a dollar has been paid to professional managers or fundraisers.

But I recently learned, from the first person to raise $1,000,000 in a state wide political race, that to have a reasonable chance in November of '08,   that must change.  We must use paid professional help.....and we will!

I see a great deal of help being available about the middle of next February, as seven of our eight Democratic presidential candidates will no longer have need of their services.

In the meanwhile my mother worries "don't you have anyone helping," to which I can reply a resounding YES.  I am volunteering at the State Democratic Headquarters for the summer. (I will begin my job again teaching geometry at U S Grant High School on Aug.16.)   Most of my days I spend considerable time between the successful campaign managers of the Prader, Rice, and Fields Campaigns, and their guidance has been very good and very appreciated.

To join and support our campaign to unseat the worst Congresswoman in America,

PLEASE send a financial donation to:  P O Box 32373, Oklahoma City, OK  73123

(Include your employer and occupation.  Address, etc, we will get off the check)

This will be a successful campaign!          www.BertSmithForCongressOK5.com

Sincerely,

Bert Smith

PS The campaign has been donated the use of an ’83 Chevy pickup, that gets about 11 miles per gallon, to be our rolling billboard.  It has two small gas tanks and costs a little over $50.00 to fill up.  PLEASE HELP US…. “KEEP IT ROLLING.”    Thanks
